Behavioral and mental health problems can happen to any person, regardless of his or her age, gender, race or income. Mental illness is a disorder of the brain and, like other disorders that affect our body, is not the result of a personal weakness, lack of character or poor parenting. Mental illnesses, such as depression, anxiety disorders, mood instability, and other psychiatric disorders, can disrupt a person’s thinking, emotions, moods and ability to relate to others. One in five adults will have a mental illness severe enough to require treatment during his or her lifetime, and many more will have emotional and mental health problems that prevent them from fully enjoying their lives.
The Molokini Units at Maui Memorial Medical Center provide interdisciplinary psychiatric care for individuals suffering from mental/emotional/behavioral illness and substance abuse. We strive to support, educate, encourage, and promote wellness for adolescents and adults to work through their crisis situations and return to their communities at their highest level of independent functioning. Our interdisciplinary team consists of a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, occupational therapist, recreational therapist and nursing staff.
Providing safety, healing and stability for patients with psychiatric needs using an evidence-based approach.
