Taking care of your heart . . .
Maui Memorial Medical Center offers a comprehensive community cardiovascular wellness program called Malama Pu'uwai (Take Care of Your Heart) four times per year. It is free and open to the public, however, pre-registration is required and space is limited.
The Malama Pu'uwai program focuses on education, healthy food choices, exercise, screening and referrals. The program is aimed at promoting wellness through early detection and modification of cardiovascular disease risk factors.
Participants must commit to a 6-week program with meetings held once per week for 2 1/2 hours. After the 6-week program, 3- and 9-month follow-up newsletters will be mailed, and 6- and 12-month follow-up meetings will be held. This schedule will allow continuous contact with participants over a 15-month period.
For more information or to register for the next Malama Pu'uwai Program, please call (808) 243-3047.
In addition to the Malama Pu'uwai Program, MMMC has a presence in the community at events and health fairs, offering free screenings such as glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure checks. _______________________________________________________________________________
